The Panel Rib Roof is a terrific roof when you’re working with a tight budget or with time constraints, or either, as is usually the case! This roof has been a definite problem-solver for our customers! It’s low-maintenance, hard working and easy to manage. No surprises here. And the quality and looks of the product are just great—no need to worry about compromises there either.

For the third piece in our roofing series here on the Norsteel blog, we’re going to discuss the Panel Rib Roof.

PRR panels come standard in 26 gauge, and they’re available in 24 and 22 gauge options. (Just FYI, the lower the gauge, the thicker the piece of metal.) The 36-inch wide steel panel has ribs that are 1.25” high and comes in lengths up to 41 feet—this means fewer seams for better weather resistance. The panels have a purlin bearing edge—a purlin is a horizontal structural member of the roof that helps carry the weight of the actual roofing—which increases the strength and rigidity of the panels. Also, a narrow ridge called an anti-capillary bead runs down the length of each sidelap to increase weather-tightness and help keep your building’s contents dry and safe.

A big reason why these metal roofs are so economical is that you don’t need a trade to come do the field seaming on your site—the panels are attached with self-drilling, stainless steel colour-matched fasteners. This is a lot quicker as well. The panels’ wide module and long length keeps side- and endlaps to a minimum which improves the weathertightness of the roof. Sealant is applied on every metal-to-metal contact point for added security against wind and rain. And for the finishes, our standard is the high quality Galvalume followed by paint in 13 standard KXL colours, or 4 standard SP colours. Of course, custom colours are available too.

Like the other roof types we carry, the PRR can accommodate up to six inches of fiberglass blanket insulation for a building that’s energy-efficient. And, because it’s steel, it’s an environmentally friendly choice—the original recyclable material.
